Laura earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology and Spanish from Auburn University. She briefly pursued a career in the field of psychology before learning about speech-language pathology and immediately being hooked! Laura’s passions for language, linguistics, and cognition drew her to the field initially, and she has found much more to love about speech-language pathology since beginning her studies. Laura completed her pre-requisite communicative sciences and disorders coursework at Michigan State University and earned her Master of Science in speech-language pathology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During graduate school and beyond, Laura has received training and gained experience with pediatrics and adults in settings including schools, private practices, and outpatient hospital settings. Laura currently works in adult outpatient rehabilitation at WakeMed. Laura speaks Spanish and has learned and maintained her Spanish by majoring in Spanish; studying abroad for a semester in Alcalá de Henares, Spain, in a language immersion program; joining conversation groups; and traveling to countries such as Peru, Guatemala, Argentina, and Uruguay. Her background in psychology provides a strong foundation for her knowledge of cognition and her ability to counsel patients and their families. Laura loves seeing a wide variety of patients, but she is especially passionate about working with adults with aphasia and cognitive-communication deficits. Laura loves to read, play piano and clarinet, do yoga, travel, and spend time with her husband, Joey, and her dogs, Fig and Newton.
